Simple things series

Do you think you don't have enough money to donate to charity?

In the simple things series I will give you simple things you can do that don't cost much now, but add up big later.

Food Banks

Food banks always need help.
An easy way to help if you can't donate your time is to pick up 1 donate-able food item at the grocery store each trip.
Below are some of the top 12 food items that most food banks always need:

  • Peanut Butter
  • Cereal and oatmeal
  • Tuna
  • Beans and rice
  • Baby food and formula
  • Macaroni and Cheese
  • Chili
  • Canned Stews/ Soups
  • Pasta
  • Canned  Meats
  • Kid friendly crackers and snacks
  • Canned Fruits and veggies
Most food banks ask for no glass jars so keep that in mind!Just make sure any perishable item has a generous expiration date!

Several of these items cost $3 or less, so next time you are at the grocery store pick one up. Create a box in your house or find a local donation box and throw it in.
If everyone donated 1 item once or twice a month it would really add up fast for your local food bank.

  1. I always make sure to include lots and lots of baby food in my monthly food bank donation! Everytime I talk to staff or hear someone talking about the food bank they always note how everyone forgets about the babies!

    Great post!

    1. Jenn, That is exactly what we are talking about. For a few dollars you can feed a baby for several days!
      Way to go!
